Why masking doesn't work

Many people try to cover up unpleasant odors with room sprays or scented candles. The result: two smells instead of one. The original smell remains – it's just temporarily overpowered.

True odor protection works differently. It neutralizes. It binds odor molecules instead of masking them. And it then creates clear, fresh room air that truly smells different – not just smells different.

Why odors linger for so long

Odors – especially smoke odors – are oily. They settle into textiles, upholstery, carpets, and walls. Ventilation removes odors from the air but not from surfaces. That's why the odor often returns after airing out.

The 3-step method for fresh room air

  1. Ventilate: Cross-ventilation for at least 10 minutes. If possible, air out or wash textiles.
  2. Neutralize: Light an odor absorber candle. The active ingredients bind odor molecules and neutralize them.
  3. Set the room fragrance: Turn on a room fragrance or diffuser. Only now – on a neutral background – will the scent fully unfold its effect.

Odors by type

Smudging as odor neutralization

Smudging with Palo Santo, frankincense, or sage has proven air-purifying properties. As a complement to ventilation and odor absorbers, smudging is very effective. More: Smudging with Incense – Basics.
