The twelve "Rauhnächte" (Rough Nights) traditionally fall between Christmas and Epiphany. Depending on the region, the count begins on the night of December 24th to 25th or already at the winter solstice. There are no uniform rules.
The twelve nights are often symbolically linked to the twelve months of the coming year. Each night can be dedicated to a month, a theme, or a personal question.
A contemporary ritual can be simple. Five to ten minutes in the evening are enough. Light a candle, jot down a thought, and answer a single question.
