I’m DI, founder of SteinKunstWerk. Something slightly strange happens in the second week of August. Summer is still very much present, but shops and schedules begin behaving as if autumn will start tomorrow morning. I prefer a slower transition.
After a holiday or road trip, the first things to enter the home are usually suitcases, bags, small gifts and the question: where are we going to put all of this? Instead of immediately redesigning the room for a new season, I would choose one sunny accent. The mustard-yellow DREIECK vase does exactly that.
If you have just arrived after a long drive, do not stack the events. One day out followed by one quiet day at home is a perfectly respectable holiday plan.
The mustard-yellow DREIECK vase sits between summer and autumn. It looks sunny in August and warm in September, so it is not an object that works for only three weeks.
I like the combination of a clear geometric form and a colour that does not apologise for being visible. The vase is only twelve centimetres high, but size and presence are not the same thing.
A large bouquet is unnecessary. One flower from a market or one branch from the garden keeps the shape of the vase visible and stops the table becoming a flower warehouse.
Most of us take hundreds of photographs and print almost none. Choose one and place it beside the vase. It becomes a personal memory without needing a souvenir with the city name printed across it.
The colour remains strong beside the beige KUMO cup or the earthy OCHA Mixed Clay cup, while the overall arrangement stays calm.
Replace the fresh flower with a small dried stem or grass later. The room shifts towards late summer without a complete seasonal reset.
One object, one photo and one clear memory. The rest can remain in a box. A home does not need to become the archive of every enjoyable day.
A short Ruhr outing, one flower in the DREIECK vase and coffee after returning home. It has character without requiring a complete stage set.
