A tea ritual is not limited to taste. The texture of the ceramic, the sound of the water, the steam, the light, and a very subtle fragrance can create a coherent experience. The goal is not to multiply sensations, but to give each one a measured place.
To start with the basics, first consult our guide to creating a personal ceremony with a KUMO cup.
Pair Japan Gyokuro Asahi with the blue KUMO cup. The fresh hue visually complements the tea's vegetal character. Natural light and a slightly open window are sufficient; avoid strong fragrances.
For Jasmine Pearls or China Jasmine Superior, choose a beige or Mixed Clay KUMO. The Lime, Basil & Mandarin candle can be placed at a distance and used sparingly. Extinguish it if its scent overpowers the jasmine of the tea.
Japan Bancha Houjicha, with its roasted notes, is suitable for a calm transition into the evening. A Mixed Clay or grey/black KUMO can be accompanied by the woody candle Forest Soul. Always keep a distance between the beverage and the scented source.
The Altar der Stille tray allows you to group the candle and a small decorative object in a separate area from the cup. A branch, a stone, or a small ceramic piece is enough. Too many elements distract from the tea and complicate storage.
Use candles on a flat, heat-resistant surface, away from drafts. Adjust the wick according to the manufacturer's instructions and never leave the flame unattended. Hot water and ceramics can cause burns: maintain a safe distance from children and animals.
Which sense matters most in your ritual: the texture of the cup, the scent of the tea, the light, or the silence? Share your answer in the comments.
