Natural cork in home accessories: properties and care

What is natural cork?

Cork is harvested from the bark of the cork oak. Its cellular structure makes it relatively light and resilient. Performance depends on thickness, processing, possible binders and finish. Cork alone does not establish a certified grip rating.

Contact layer beneath an object

A cork base can provide softer contact between a heavy item and furniture. It cannot guarantee the absence of scratches or slipping. Keep surfaces level and free from grit.

An insert in a concrete tray

Bannik's Giske combines a concrete tray with a natural cork insert. It is intended for keys, small jewellery and other dry objects. Place scratch-sensitive jewellery with care.

Where else is cork used?

Egersund includes cork on its underside. Lomvika and Farsund also feature cork details; their exact use differs by model.

Cleaning and limits

Dust with a soft dry cloth, wipe gently with a barely damp cloth if necessary and allow to dry. Do not soak or scrub. A cork insert does not make concrete waterproof, food-safe or suitable for open flames.

Sources and limits

The exact manufacturer's product data governs uses and care. Rayher documents Raysin 200; professional concrete references describe cement-based materials. This article is not a product certification.
