Part 2: After the paper – The art of throwing away
On Boxing Day, the excitement is over. The presents have been unwrapped, the cookies eaten, and you look at the huge mess left behind by the joy of unwrapping. And there it is – the crucial question: What do we do with all that wrapping paper?
🎁 Paper as “garbage”?
The packages that were packed with so much dedication now lie crumpled on the floor, and once shiny and pristine, they are now a pile of trash . But is it really "trash"?
It turns out that our wrapping paper takes a quick turn after the holidays – it ends up in the trash, crumpled and forgotten. But that feels somehow... wrong , doesn't it? This mass of material disappearing into the trash after just a few minutes of excitement and surprise is more than just a small paradox.
🌍 Sustainability as a solution?
There's an opportunity here that we're perhaps not fully exploiting: sustainability . Imagine if we could flip the whole packaging game a bit. Instead of buying new paper every year, we could opt for reusable alternatives . Cloth bags that can be reused year after year, or recyclable paper that captures the festive spirit just as well—but without the guilt of waste.
🎄 The true magic remains
But honestly, for most of us, Christmas remains the celebration of glittering paper , bows , and the element of surprise . That's part of the magic that makes the holiday so special. And even if the paper ends up in the trash at some point, the feeling of giving and receiving remains —that's what it's really all about.
