St. Martin 2025 – Lanterns, light and a special offer at SteinKunstWerk

October is coming to an end, and soon a festival full of light and warmth will be upon us: November 11th – St. Martin .

Many people associate this day with colorful lanterns, songs, community, and the well-known legend of Saint Martin of Tours, who shared his cloak with a freezing beggar. Even today, this festival reminds us of the values of charity, sharing, and mindfulness .

At SteinKunstWerk , we've made it our mission to bring such moments of warmth into your home with handmade candles and ritual accessories . And because St. Martin's Day is a celebration of sharing, we'd like to surprise you with a little gift: On November 11th, you'll receive a 10% discount on selected products in our shop with our St. Martin's Day discount.

The meaning of St. Martin

St. Martin is one of Europe's most famous saints. His story is closely linked to the idea of sharing: He shared his coat with a freezing man – a symbol of compassion and solidarity. To this day, this event is celebrated on St. Martin's Day. St. Martin 's Day processions with lanterns are an integral part of the tradition, bringing light to children's eyes and brightening the dark autumn evenings.

The theme of light is central – lanterns and candles remind us that even a small light can bring hope and comfort. In keeping with this tradition, our tea lights and sets are ideal for creating a cosy atmosphere in your home during this time of year.

Make a lighthouse – simple instructions for a St. Martin’s lantern

Making lanterns is one of the most enjoyable ways to prepare for St. Martin's Day. This year, we'd like to introduce you to a craft idea: a paper lighthouse that looks like a small, glowing villa—perfect for the lantern parade or as a window decoration.

Materials:

  • Sturdy cardboard in white or beige (DIN A4)
  • Tracing paper in yellow or orange
  • Scissors and cutter
  • Glue stick and craft glue
  • ruler and pencil
  • Wire bracket for the lantern pole
  • Electric tealight or lantern stick with LED light

Step-by-step instructions:

  1. Draw the outline of a house on the cardboard: four walls with windows, a door, and a roof.
  2. Carefully cut out the windows and door with the cutter.
  3. Cover the cut-out windows with tracing paper to create a warm light effect.
  4. Fold the cardboard along the edges to form a small house and glue the sides together.
  5. The roof can also be covered with tracing paper to create an additional play of light.
  6. Attach the wire hanger to the roof so the lantern can be carried.
  7. Place an electric tea light inside – your glowing house is ready!

Tip: Cutting out the windows in different shapes (round, pointed, or small arches) will make the lighthouse look even more vibrant. Small stars or hearts in the roof also create a nice effect.

St. Martin and sustainability

A conscious lifestyle also means reinterpreting traditions. Instead of disposable plastic lanterns, we recommend durable, homemade alternatives like the Lighthouse. The same applies to decorations: Our handmade decorative figures are sustainably produced, reusable, and bring joy year after year.

Our Zen Oasis collection also demonstrates how mindfulness, design, and sustainability can converge. It's perfect for atmospheric autumn evenings, whether for St. Martin's Day, on cold winter days, or in the run-up to Christmas.

Rituals with candlelight

Lighting a candle is a ritual that brings peace and focus. Especially on St. Martin's Day, when the lanterns are lit outside, you can create a small counterpart in your home: Place candles by the window, light a tea light, and take a moment for silence and mindfulness. You can find further inspiration on our page "Rituals with Meaning ."

Conclusion: St. Martin as a festival of sharing

St. Martin reminds us that it's often the small gestures that make a big difference. Sharing a light, giving a gift, consciously creating a ritual – all of these create moments of connection. This is precisely what SteinKunstWerk products represent: vegan scented candles , thoughtful decorations, and DIY kits that bring mindfulness into your home.

And don't forget: On November 11th , we're giving you **10% off selected products** for St. Martin's Day. A small contribution from us to put sharing at the forefront.
