Straßen- und Tierheimhunde in Griechenland: Ein anderes Thema, das uns bewegt - SteinKunstWerk

Street and shelter dogs in Greece: Another topic that concerns us

We recently saw a moving TV report about street and shelter dogs in Greece. We usually write about creative DIY projects and special products here on the blog, but this topic touched us so deeply that we wanted to share it with you.

In Greece, many dogs live on the streets or in overcrowded animal shelters. The conditions are appalling: too little space, too little food, and scarce medical care. Local rescuers do their best, but the fight often seems hopeless. Many of these dogs wait for years for a home – or never have the chance to find one.

The situation in Germany

Unfortunately, this isn't just a problem in Greece. Animal shelters in Germany are also overcrowded. More and more animals are being surrendered, either due to rising living costs or because the responsibility of having a pet is underestimated. The staff at the shelters do a great job, but even here, there is often insufficient space and resources to provide each animal with the necessary care.

A second chance for street and shelter dogs

For me personally, this report was an eye-opener. Before I spend several hundred euros on a puppy, I would rather give a dog from a shelter a second chance. These animals need my care more urgently, and I'd rather spend the money I save on the shelter to support the care of other animals.

Making a difference together

Sometimes it only takes a moment to change our thinking. Perhaps this story can inspire you too, consider adopting or donating, and thus make a difference together. Let's help the dogs waiting for a better life – because they all deserve a second chance.
